Termite Inspection: Things to Look Into

By Hudson Wyoming

It is very inspiring to look at your dream house especially if it was built by sweat and blood. With intricate designs and perfect matches of the materials used, owners of personalized homes feel so much pride in what they and others can see. More often than not, various commends are likely to flow whenever friends and other visitors got a glimpse of the said house.

But no matter how technologically competent the materials to which your dream house is made of, there are however small venues that will enable other organisms to coinhabit with you inside your home. Termites for instance are often noticed late and by that time they have already successfully established their colonies and perhaps have devoured a considerable portion of the components of your home with wood. They appear to be very cunning and the damage is often bigger than what is seen on the surface.

Unlike other common domicile pests, termites appear to be difficult to spot and recognize as they seem to have a close resemblance with ants. Also, the destructive form of this insect is not the one that starts infestation but it is more of the flying swarmers which are often missed out by any homeowner. Since this species are often noticed late, they have already established their colonies and unfortunately have caused so much damage already.

To spare yourself from so much damage imaginable that can be brought by termites who were successful in establishing their colonies in your property, then taking time to inspect your house could be a good start. Although termite inspection might be relatively confusing to begin with especially that the species you are trying to identify appears morphologically similar with ants at a distance, this is however one of the important step to venture should you want to ensure a termite-free property. Looking for the right organism in the right spot will also increase your chances of determining whether termites are present or not.

To check for termite infestation, begin by looking for existence of flying organisms inside your house. If the organisms have uniform waists, straight antenna, and wing sizes are equal, then it is likely that you have flying adults trying to established or have already established colonies inside your house by laying their eggs in some spot inside your property. Should you find such organisms then take time to follow at least one to determine where they could have deposited their eggs.

For thorough search of possible termite infestation, you can also try looking for earthen tunnels on spots that are made of wood. These tunnels are used by termites to move form their colony to your house so they get to source out wood without being noticed. When you find one, immediately seek the services of termite exterminators as earthen tunnels are sure sign of active termite infestation.
