Hard Time Controlling Your Dog? Try These Ideas!

By Daren Groves

It makes no difference if you buy a new puppy or an older dog, you still need to put in the time and effort to train your pet. This article will give you some tips to get started on your endeavor and you will find that a stronger bond forms between you and your dog.

In order to train a dog to be really well-mannered, you should aim to use the words "good" and "no" as often as you can, so that your dog understands what these words mean. By making these words familiar vocabulary for your dog, you will have a higher success rate of training your dog effectively. There is no need to shout angrily at your dog, just use a firm tone when saying "no". Conversely, use a warm enthusiastic tone when you say "good".

If your dog has a problem with play biting or excitement nipping, try giving him the cold shoulder. Mouthing dogs are only reacting to their excitement, so cutting off attention will give him the signal that this is an inappropriate way to show that he is happy. With consistency across members of the household, excitement mouthing can be a thing of the past.

To really get your dog to be obedient, love your pooch. Baiting with rewards for behavior reinforcement and then eventually removing those rewards is a tactic that works. However, a dog that knows he is truly loved is more likely to follow commands because he feels you have his best interests at heart.

Stop talking as much and start showing your animal what behaviors are important to you.

Now that you have found some useful dog training tips, it is time to put them into action. Before starting any training, make sure that your dog does not have any health issues that can make training harder. Read up on the specific breed of dog that you have and have fun with him.
