Whenever you want your dog's attention, use its name. You must have a good response from your dog in order to have a proper amount of control. Use his name at least 10 times each day. Try to avoid punishing your dog when it comes to you after you call out its name while using this technique.

Dogs generally focus on one thing while ignoring everything around them, unless something interrupts that intense focus. Dogs learn by repetition so with continued training, your dog will immediately focus on what you are saying.

Be cognitive of the duration of time you and your dog devote to training sessions. Dogs can only handle a short amount of training at a time, so don't overdo it. Keep the lessons down to about 10 minutes or so.

Keep your dog outside if you are not there. It will reduce the headache you get from the dog's uncontrollable chewing. If you have an indoor dog that is not kennel trained, then close them out of the rooms in which they like to chew.

Make a point to enjoy your time with your dog while you are training. Playful interaction strengthens the bond between you, and will have your dog striving even harder to please you during training. In addition to your daily training sessions, take time out for simple play. Make this uncomplicated and fun for your dog.

Spay or neuter your dog at six months. Obedience training should be put off until this is done. The dog will preform better in obedience training after they have been neutered or spayed. You and your dog will have many more happy years together and your pet will also be healthier.

To help you train your dog you should know what kinds of foods your dog likes to eat. Rewarding him with his favorite treat will be much more satisfying and motivate him to better performance in training. Be sure that he really likes what you are giving him to reward his good behavior.

Find ways to stimulate your dog's brain cells in order to provide healthy alternatives to an inactive existence. Amongst other things, dogs love going for walks, chewing bones, and playing with Kong toys filled with peanut butter. If you neglect your dog, your dog won't neglect to chew up your valuable possessions.

Now that you have been provided with this useful information, you are on your way to having a well behaved dog. Having an understanding on how to go about training your dog will help you get started.
