How To Keep Your Home Pest Free

By John Philips

Pests are everywhere. Unfortunately there is always the chance that these unwelcome visitors may return to your home, regardless of the success you had eradicating the pests once before. Many have a very vague idea when it comes to what pests are and what they are capable of doing until the major, sometimes irreversible, damage is done.

Pests can take all shapes and sizes. You will probably know if you have mice, rats and cockroaches running around your house but there are others that are less easy to detect. For example all around America there are household fleas that can go undetected for months or even years if homeowners are not picking up on the signs.

A pest is defined as an organism that is detrimental to any human activity causing health, ecological and economical issues. Although you may think of agricultural properties being most at risk from pests, regular suburban households can suffer too. There are many varieties of pests and they can come from anything from seasonal changes to moist wood, forgotten cupboards and pest-attracting plants.

Even though pest attacks can not be diminished as a whole, it is possible to implement pest control methods in order to keep the damages at their lowest. Some of the most convenient, cheap and effective pest control methods that can be used in small scale inside buildings and in small gardens, and can also be used in larger scale in agriculture are discussed in this article.

One of the widely recommended, environmental friendly pest control method is the use of natural predators of pests to control them. There is no adverse effect of using these sound biological methods. Artificial ponds that may be attracting mosquitoes in breeding season are a great example, by introducing fish into these ponds people have removed the mosquitoes for good. Another environmentally friendly method of pest control is to ensure that there are no possible breeding grounds around. For example, a clean and tidy attic should be your top priority if you worry about mice entering your home and if termites are a possibility then you need to ensure that there is no damp wood around your home.

Use of poison baits and traps are two other methods of pest control. These methods are commonly used to control mice, but their effectiveness is a matter to be rethought. They can also be harmful to people if left in the kitchen. A poison spray is a modern and convenient variation on the toxic substances that people previously used. It is a fast way of getting shot of all kinds of pests like termites, flies, bugs, cockroaches and ants.

In severe cases of pest attacks, pest control methods like fumigation and space treatment are used. Although relatively expensive, you do get what you pay for way to get rid of pests available and will ensure that they do not return by destroying all the pest's life stages. However if you are left feeling that your pest issue has gotten out of control and you don't know what to do next, it is highly recommended to call in a professional for advice before using any specialised chemicals.
