I noticed an improvement in condition of feces also. His poop is firmer, more normal coloring, and less of it. I was giving my dogs Science Diet Puppy food from the time I got them at 8 weeks. Science Diet changed the formula about 3 months ago and the food just did not smell or look right. Investigate the very large number of complaints on the web about the new formula before exposing your pet to it. I've tried different foods with my puppies.
I started feeding this about 10 years ago to one of my other labs because he had cancer and I wanted to give him the best nutrition possible without breaking the bank. He thrived on this food.
No ingredient should be meal or by product. I had to pick up a grocery store brand after running out of our regular Innova dog food.
It may be very nutritious, but my little terriers told me, "We are NOT eating this stuff. After 3 days they sniffed their bowls and walked away.
Our picky dogs enjoy this food and so do I, knowing I feel good about the quality and mix it with canned PN food. She doesn't care for it by itself but then she doesn't like any dry dog food. It may just be time to buy a cow! I had fed my dogs Science Diet and Iams for years, but I grew concerned after all the recalls of tainted food.
They had no stool problems, itchiness, vomiting that others have suggested. I am still quite pleased with Canidae and will continue to use it for all of my dogs. The price is great especially without having to pay shipping charges. I love the fact that I can manage the subscription by skipping a month or ordering it earlier than scheduled. Canidae moved their manufacturing to a different plant in late 2008 and at the same time, in order to save money, changed their formulas. They added a lot more grain and other products that have caused dogs to have numerous skin and GI problems. But, I would have rather they raised the prices rather than switch ingredients without warning. Now, I've got to go hunt for another brand that is good for my dogs, and not part of the original recall. It seems like his body is getting more out of his food. He seems to have an improved activity level.
It is very comforting for owners that it is all natural (and mostly organic) with no by products and preservatives. We gave our dog (a 7 year old lab mix) Pet Promise before.
