First, you need to gather these things: 2 water containers or pails (one filled with tap water), brush, hot water, bleach or sanitizing soap, and gloves (preferably rubber gloves). You need to wear a pair of gloves to protect yourself and prevent any sort of contamination from taking place while cleaning the feeders. This is because of the fact that there is no assurance that every bird that eats on those feeders is not sick or is not a carrier of any contagious disease. For this reason, it is just appropriate that you wear a pair of gloves. Always prioritize safety above all. You also need to have some hot water for it will be used for sanitizing the feeders. For the brush, it is best to use those types that are being sold in pet stores. But, if you can't afford to purchase one, then you can also use those that are used for regular bottles or you can also use a toothbrush as an alternative.

The first step in cleaning your bird feeders is to fill one pail or container with tap water. Next, place the feeders inside the container or pail that contains the water and have them soaked. Put an appropriate amount of bleach or sanitizing soap into the water and leave it for 5 minutes. After soaking the feeders for 5 minutes, remove them from the water one at a time and clean it with the use of a brush. You should brush the entire feeder and see to it that you have brushed every part of it. This includes the lids, poles, perches, and platforms. Next, rinse the feeders thoroughly with the use of tap water for 10 to 15 seconds. This is to make sure that any scent or chemical will be totally removed from the feeders. The next step that you need to do is to pour some hot water on the other pail or container and have those feeders soaked in it for a minimum of 10 minutes. This is to ensure that the feeders are free from bacteria and are well-sanitized. And the last step would be to have those feeders dried completely to eliminate the presence of moisture. You can then have them refilled and returned to their appropriate positions.
