Expressing Your Love Through A Pet Memorial Plaque

By Amparo Bird

When an animal companion dies, it seems appropriate to honor him or her with a pet memorial plaque. Displaying a memento like this may help you process your grief. It also shows your gratitude for the many happy hours you spent together.

The first decision you may have to make is where to place the keepsake, as this will affect the materials you should choose. With granite and marble, the colors and message are less likely to fade due to the effects of weather. Therefore these are good options if the commemorative item will be displayed in a garden or elsewhere outdoors.

If the tribute will be displayed indoors, you could choose almost any material. There are lovely items available in crystal, wood and a variety of metals. Some are meant to hang on the wall, while others stand alone. Some can be expensive, but you do not have to spend a lot of money in order to have a suitable and meaningful remembrance.

Some folks include a heart-felt written message to convey their feelings. This can be elaborate or simple, depending on how comfortable you are with expressing emotions. Others bypass wording altogether in favor of a photo or engraving of their much loved animal buddy.

Many people find that a dedication ceremony helps them deal with their grief. This could involve burial and unveiling of the commemorative item. Children and parents alike can then share their favorite stories about time spent with their pet.

A pet memorial plaque tells the world how much we love our animal companions. There are other things we can do to convey that same message. One is volunteering to care for animals at a local shelter. Another is to donate funds to an animal charity that needs our help.
