How to Train Your Dog to Perform Tricks

By Yvonne Ralph

Puppies learn quickly at a tender age. They need to since they're learning all about the world around them. This means you can start teaching your puppy things you want him to learn as quickly as you bring him home. You can begin coaching your little puppy around 8-10 weeks of age. Besides the basic lessons of sit and come that all puppies ought to know, you may also train your puppy the proper way to do some tricks.

The tricks you teach your puppy will not be intricate at first but they'll be fun for both you and your puppydog and they will get your puppy in the habit of learning things through training. This is a good lesson for your puppy since you'll probably wish to teach him to do other stuff as he becomes older.

At The Pet Lovers Network, we teach you a variety of tips to make your time with your puppy more fun. Let us look at 1 or 2 favored tricks that you can teach your dog.

Roll Over

Just as you can teach your dog to sit by holding a treat over his head and "luring" him into a sitting position, you can also utilize a treat to coax him into the lying down position. As quickly as your dog has mastered "lie down" you can move on to teach him to roll over.

Shake Hands

You can teach your dog to shake hands. With your dog sitting you can let him know to "Shake," and take his paw in your hands.

Irrespective of what tricks you teach your puppy do not forget to keep sessions short. Puppies are smart and they can learn quick but they have short attention spans. It's better to have two 10-15 minutes sessions per day than one long training session that makes your young dog bored.
