How to Get Cat Urine Out of Carpet?

By Julie Hayward

Plenty of feline lovers i know ask me how it's possible to get kitty urine out of carpet. The first time I stepped in a pool of feline piss I was completely furious. I knew the litter box was clean, and I was positive my cat was properly trained , but for some reason they'd still urinated on the carpet. After getting over the first disgust (and cleaning my shoe) I wasn't sure what to do.

Once pet pee saturates the carpet it is tough to dump the smell, or prevent a stain from setting. I knew I had to do something, and after one or two false starts I was in a position to get the cat urine out of the carpet. If you're a cat owner who is dreading that first accident, learning how to get cat-urine out of carpet before an accident occurs will assist in avoiding a major stain and a large amount of stress.

Blot the Area

After finding an area that has been urinated on by your feline, blot up any excess liquid immediately. If the liquid has an opportunity to flow thru the carpet, it may reach the boards before making another area for the smell and bacteria to grow. Drying the area as well as feasible will reduce the chances of the urine reaching the floor boards or totally saturating the carpet.

Neutralize the Odour

Once you have finished blotting, neutralise the odor with vinegar and water. Create a mix of 50% vinegar and 50% water in a large glass or bowl. Tip the blend over the area thoroughly saturating the area that has the most piss. The mix will neutralize the odour, making it hard for the pussy-cat to find the area and urinate on it again. If you don't work on neutralizing the odor, your cat might begin frequently "marking" the same location compounding the difficulty. The next step is critical in how to get cat urine out of carpet.

Kill the Bacteria

Simply because the nastiest of the odor is gone doesn't suggest the bacteria isn't still there. The bacteria in kitty urine will continue to flourish if not looked after, and the bacteria can often smell worse the first ammonia of moggy pee. Use a mixture of hydrogen peroxide and baking soda to destroy the bacteria before it's got a chance to grow or spread. If you don't have sodium bicarbonate, just use hydrogen peroxide to annihilate the bacteria.

Last Cleaning

When you're sure the majority of the odor and bacteria has been eliminated by the vinegar, water, and hydrogen peroxide; move on to a final inclusive cleaning. Use a pet cleaning chemical on the affected area. Though many of these over the counter moggy piss cleaners don't perform as well as publicized, after you have cleaned the area the chemicals in the spray will often repel your kitty making them avoid the area in the future. Repelling a cat is one of the most vital parts in cleaning pussy pee out of carpet since it decreases the odds of a repeat performance in the same area.
