Dog Beds - Do You Need One?

By Demetrius Study

We used to have a problem with our 135 pound Newfoundland dog sleeping in our bed and sometimes on the couch when we are away. After we bought him his memory foam bed, everything was resolved. The dog's bed functions the similar to that of human. Hence, your dog gets the same assistance of reinforcement that we also get in our beds especially if you have an old dog with joint problems. We placed his bed at the foot of our bed under the ceiling fan. More than once did we saw him sleeping on his back, his belly up, and his fur, swaying to and fro. He seems to be having a nice time in dreamland.

He is one satisfied dog! He is one pleased dog!

Our dog is getting older so we strive to maintain his physical fitness and happy disposition so he can be with us for a long time. BooBoo, as we amorously call him, is spoiled all the time but only up to the extent that is not damaging to his health. He has limitations on food, so we monitor his intake. Even the treats we serve him is healthy. He has a tendency to gulp his food and water, like most creatures do. He consumes his food in just a matter of seconds.

Even water, he would gulp it down as well. Research studies indicated that swallowing food in mouthfuls can cause many problems such as acid reflux, overeating tendencies, irregular eating, obstruction of the digestive tract, gagging, queasiness and other digestive problems. So we found these really cool water and food dishes that regulate and slow down eating and drinking (maybe someone should invent something like this for us humans, too. We eat and drink entirely too fast and could use something to make us slow down!)

You probably haven't recognized a Newfoundland, but its breed has very thick fur and discards greasy dander. These dogs exhibit a very strong propensity to rescue people from the icy waters of Newfoundland and their fur protects them from the freezing cold. Yet, it can be depressing for him during the summer season.

He sheds a lot, and his coat has a distinct odor. For the duration of the winter season, he starts to smell bad. We don't like bathing him during winter because his fur dries too slow. Therefore we had to use other methods of making and keeping him fresh. And find it we did. There is this ionized brush that does not use water or any chemical, only negative charged ions in removing the bad smell and untangling matted fur.So now during the winter months, BooBoo smells and feels as clean during the summer ones, and everyone is happy.

All right, we do indulge our pets. But they give us so much in return. If you want your dog to grow old with you, make sure he/she stays in good physical condition with a proper diet, exercise and rest. Most of all, love, love, love.
