The joys of the terrier, dogs alone in their class.

By Steve Cote

The terrier group of dogs is vast and sundry.

From the tiniest tiny yorkie to the vast and stunning muscle of the pitbull the terrier is one of a kind. Fun, complex and very constant are all words that might apply to a terrier of any kind.

Terrier lovers appear to recognize one another from simply a look. Apologies fall from the mouth of the jack Russell owner as frequently as respiring. A vehicle that contains as little as one bold jack Russell shakes with crazed defensive barking at each opportunity.

The Staffordshire bull terrier owner is consistently attempting to disentangle himself from the loving advances of the family pet. A staffie loves unlike any other. She thinks that she is a lap dog that needs to adhere hopelessly to her owner, the Staffordshire bull terriers eyes are pools packed with constant love.

The owner with the pitbull as their kind of choice has struggled within recent times. This dog lover is faced with breed discrimination labelling their soft, a touch dopey and delicate family dog as threatening. Many live in fear of the authorised fit of their beloved dog.

West Highlands and Scotty dogs are captivating little creatures. Trained with reward and well managed they're easy and fun. Under socialised and not trained with positive strategies these tiny dogs will most certainly rule the household. Just ask the owner who finds himself sitting on the carpet whilst his westie and its scotty dog sister occupy the settee.

There are far too many terrier types to say here. All breeds are subtly different but essentially the same, offering love, perpetual fellowship and often maddening training sessions. Terriers like to play tug, squash as close to you as they can get and ask countless questions while you attempt to control them. Bright and enjoyable, reactive and reactive the terrier will augment your life.

In truth when you live with your first terrier, the sole question you'll ask is why you didn't discover them earlier. And if you arm yourself with the right knowledge, you will be able to train others how to train a pitbull.
