By Regina T. Roby

For animal lovers who cherish television, today's programming selections give you a huge selection of animal themed programs. Channels like Animal Planet, Discovery, National Geographic and more have rich shows focusing on a variety of animals great and small. Some of the best animal related programs were some of the first to reach the airwaves. Let's look at the four best animal Television programs in history.

# 4 - Lancelot Link :Secret Agent Chimp

For the Kids of the 1970s, Lancelot Link was one TV show that few will ever forget. A Saturday morning spy spoof featuring an entire cast of chimpanzee actors, Lancelot Link was motivated by the slapstick comedy of the renowned Get Smart situation comedy. On television from 1970-1972, this kid's show featured the classic battle of good vs. evil, pitting good guys A.P.E. (Agency for the Prevention of Evil) against the evil C.H.U.M.P (the Criminal Headquarters for Underworld Master Plan). Lead by good guy Lancelot Link, A.P.E. confronted villains Chief Baron von Butcher, Dr. Strangemind and many others. Absolutely a farce even for children, this entertaining show is amongst the more noteworthy and ranks at number 4 for the best animal Television show of all time.

# 3 - Mister Ed :Talking Horse

Talking animals have invariably been a Hollywood favorite, so the Mr. Ed television show absolutely belongs as one of the top animal Television shows of all time. Broadcast from 1961 - 1966, the Mr. Ed television show followed a smooth-talking horse who lived in the barn of a scatterbrained and klutzy architect Wilbur Post. Known for only speaking to his owner, Ed was a joker who would frequently encounter all sorts of comical events not normally experienced by most horses. Driving a delivery vehicle, surfing and flying an airplane were just a couple of Mr. Ed's most impressive adventures. Consequently, any horse that can talk and surf deserves the ranking of number 3 for the best animal show ever.

# 2 - Lassie

Conceivably one of the most cherished shows of all time, Lassie was a tv series based on a short story that was later expanded into the full-length novel Lassie Come Home. Debuting in 1954, Lassie tracked the escapades of a Collie as she protected her child companion from wildlife and wayward criminals, not to mention rescuing woodland animals from looming danger. Because the consistent themes of the show were those of courage, commitment and honesty, they resonated with American families of the day. Because of this, it's no surprise how this Sunday night keyword on the CBS network owned the top spot in its time slot for nearly 119-dog years. Furthermore, the Lassie character has appeared in radio, t . v ., movies, playthings, comic books, animated series, novels for children, and other media, so this program ranks highly among the best animal TV shows of all time.

# 1 Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom

Although there have been many TV programs that have entertained countless viewers, few rate as highly as Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom. Enlightening viewers to the delights of nature across the globe, celebrated hosts Marlin Perkins and Jim Fowler investigated the far reaches of the planet on exacting tours of the African flatlands and Amazonian jungles to take audiences on an exploratory mission to learn more about animals in their wild habitats. Beautiful vistas and dangerous adventures were shared with millions for 25 years. For both its entertainment and educational value, it's clear that Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom is the best animal TV show of all time.
