Ways To Utilize Dog Training Techniques That Produce Results

By Daniel Greer

Understanding dog training techniques is pretty easy as it only comes down to a few basic principles that must be taught. Communicating effectively with your dog is very important. Patience is also a virtue but must be used. Don't expect any technique to work the first time you try it. If after 10 times it doesn't work, you need to try again. Your dog will figure it out. The tips in this article will be able to help you train your dog quickly and easily.

It can be very challenging dealing with a dog who has separation anxiety. Since the trouble is occurring when you aren't there, this makes it difficult to respond effectively to it. There are a few things you can do to make it less likely that your dog will misbehave when you're out. Make it a point to make brief trips in and out of the house, which will teach your dog that leaving doesn't always mean a long trip. The less attention you give your dog right before you leave, the better; you don't want to create any unnecessary drama around it. Returning home shouldn't be a major event either, so don't spend a lot of time with your dog the minute you get back. If you want your dog to get over this separation anxiety, you have to be a little distant when coming and going.

Housebreaking a puppy is probably a first step in a young dog's training. A reliable way to housebreak your puppy is the "crate" technique. Most dogs do not like to defecate or urinate where they sleep. This is how this strategy works. Make the crate a nesting area for the puppy, with a blanket. Younger puppies need to go to the bathroom all the time. Give the puppy a treat if it successfully goes to the bathroom outside of the crate. As you probably guessed, this is a time-consuming process taking the puppy in and out of the crate. This is one of the best ways to housebreak a puppy that we know of. Using the crate, this can also help you protect your belongings should you have to step outside.

You will soon learn when you start to train your dog the timing literally is everything. Here's what we mean. Dogs that are not trained with this in mind typically become confused during lesson time. This is usually the fault of the owner. Some trainers will not punish their dogs at the appropriate time. Dogs have short memories which you need to consider. For any effect, rewards should also be given shortly after the dog has done something properly so that they understand what they have done. For instance, if you have a dog that chews up your lawn furniture, and you beat them a day later, they will have no idea why they are being punished. It just makes sense to only praise or punish your canine in the present moment, otherwise, it will be for no reason at all.

Dog training is a process that anyone can do, but it demands a steady and consistent approach for it to succeed. You have to realize that a dog's memory is quite short, so there's no point in doing training unless you're going to be consistent about it. Dog training is well worth the effort when you consider how much it will improve your relationship with your dog.
