My Puppy has Breathing Problems - What Can I Do

By Dirk Gruenberg

Creating a suitable living environment is a great way to take care of your new puppy. You have to make sure that they have enough food, water, attention.

Moreover, you will need to take care of your dog's health. This may mean providing health care when appropriate. Moreover, it means being aware of potential problems, such as breathing problems.

As every dog lover knows, puppies are extremely curious creatures. This, in turn, means that they are likely to ingest all kinds of things they shouldn't. Among all the things puppies do, this is the main reason for breathing problems.

They usually have some obstructions in their airway which can lead to serious injuries if not attended to immediately. Here are signs and symptoms of puppy breathing problems:

If your puppy is breathing extremely fast this may indicate an obstruction of his airway. Sixty breaths per minute would be considered fast. Coughing or panting also let you know that something may be wrong with your poor puppy's breathing.

These symptoms are your initial signals to keep them under observation. Dogs usually get over their breathing problems after a while but it will be in your best interest to observe them.

If these symptoms do not go away after several hours then you should consider taking him to the vet. He may have some obstruction in his airway or he may be suffering from a health condition.

Even if your vet sends you home again, at least you will know what the problem was and that it is not a big deal. To avoid such incidences it makes sense to keep the house clutter-free, by the way.

If small objects away from your dog, he cannot end up digesting them by accident. As in most cases, prevention methods are the best way to prevent any stressful or tragic occurrences. Puppy breathing problems are no different.
