A Look at Some Common Dog Behavior Problems

By Sarah H Raught

Your dog can be your best friend, but on occasion their manners leave a little to be desired. It can be difficult to teach your dog better manners if you have never been confronted with these issues before. This type of matter can make you slightly irritated to extremely anxious. Below we will offer some suggestions on the most prevalent behavior issues with dogs and the best ways to take care of them.

One of the more annoying habits that a dog can have is jumping on people with their paws. If your dog does not like the person that it is doing this to, this can cause some major difficulties. Usually this starts early on when the puppy jumps up in a playful manner. At this stage, it is cute and usually okay. The only problem is, if this type of behavior is allowed to persist, although cute, it will develop into a very bad habit later on in life.

Don't try to push the dog away, as this will be interpreted as playing. It's best to turn to the side with your body so the dog can't get its paws on your chest. The basic "sit" command can be helpful here, and you should praise the dog for sitting. A dog can be trained out of jumping, and its best to do this at as young an age as possible.

When you are out for a leisure walk with your pooch, is he yanking on the leash nonstop? When you are leading your dog with a leash, does he try to drag you along? This could appear like a trivial thing. Do not minimize the condition; it could grow into something more severe. The awful things that could occur if your dog got off the leash could range from a dog fight to getting hit by a car. Dogs pulling things for people have been going on for many, many years. Persistence can get the job done. Never let your dog take control on your walks; you should always be the one in control. Come to an abrupt halt when your dog is straining on the leash. Stay in place and walk on once your dog has stopped along with you.

Separation anxiety is one of the most widespread issues that dogs are faced with. When a dog is left alone for the day, there is a range of different behaviors that they can show to prove their displeasure. Some symptoms of separation anxiety include urinating or defecation, chewing and constant barking. An additional sign of this is that your dog seems disappointed when you leave your home and then acts up when you get home. This is a tricky thing to have to take care of and it may take awhile to do behavior modifications and training. Leaving the radio on can be helpful, plus it is really important that you leave some toys out for them to play with during the day. Another alternative, if it is doable, is to get a second pet to keep your dog company during the day. Dogs can demonstrate a myriad of negative signs and we have covered just a few of them. Usually, if you dogs are acting out in some unusual way; it can be curtailed if you follow the correct procedure. Dogs already have the tendency to do what we want, and if they do not, we are probably not getting the correct message across to them. Whether you take on the challenge by yourself or if you have help; training your dog is doable with the right manner and a firm hand.
