Below are guidelines as well as a list of components you'll need in order to make guinea pigs cages.

By Alberto Mesa

Guinea Pigs are social animals and it would be best if you had at least two guinea pigs. The rule of thumb is to have 7.5 square feet for one guinea pig and 10.5 square feet for two. Ideally it would be best to have a bigger cage, the more space your guinea pig has to exercise the better.

The cages should be cleaned out about once a week and their food changed daily.

Materials

Cubes - approx 14 inch wire coated-wire grids. Come in boxes with multiple sheets in them and connectors

Scouring knife

Tape

Hay

Housing

Ramps - Plastic or wood

Food plates

Assembling Cube and Coropast Cages

Cube and Coroplast is definitely the modern method to create a guinea pig cage. You can buy these kind of products from any kind of department shop chain, ie KMart, they are so quickly available globally.

Simply generate a design, and join the sheets of line together with the connections offered in the box. It is up to you how large you make the cage, and how high you want it as well, they not only connect up wards but sideways also. You may also add wooden or plastic ramps approximately higher degrees for much more space to exercise.

Coroplast is plastic corrugated metal and it may be folded in shape to generate the base which is very easily washed and hosed down. It also comes in four foot by 8 foot sheets and in two thicknesses, but it's suggested you only require the four ml thickness. The corners may be cut and scored and folded straight into a corner shape to create the box base. They could be taped into shape.

Hay does not have to be spread out all around the flooring.
